One of the web sites that I am a member of is Good Clean Funnies. it is at www.gcfl.net.
here is the joke for today:
One night a wife found her husband standing over their baby’s crib. Silently she watched him. As he stood looking down at the sleeping infant, she saw on his face a mixture of emotions: disbelief, doubt, delight, amazement, enchantment, skepticism.
Touched by this unusual display and the deep emotions it aroused, with eyes glistening she slipped her arm around he...

”Visionary Bench Towers”
....when coming into contact with wood,i am at loss to explain the degree of my conceptual gain, since this thing that feeds my blood,is a very offset of the nature of being as i hold all my work to have not been in vain….
—-and yet this veiness of wood that so courses within, drives me to a place where i feel more a part with the tree, then with these-also-those others who share my herein, just as the broadaxe hewes the line of i am curled f...

A few years back, I took an introductory woodworking course. I actually found it very frustrating, because I was impatient to get my hands on some tools and learn the skills of woodworking.
The first four weeks were spent designing our projects. Now I am certainly not against designing, but I didn’t sign up for a design course – I just wanted to make something. But the instructor insisted that it was better to make my mistakes on the paper, rather than with wood. And he was cor...

The opening article of the most recent issue of Woodworking Magazine is by Chris Schwarz. In it, he talks about buying furniture vs. making it and some of the thoughts going through his head regarding that forbidden subject amongst woodworkers.
Funny how life is full of little coincidences, isn’t it? I must admit, I have a brand new dining room table and four chairs being delivered to my house a week from this Saturday. I sort of feel guilty about it.
Then again, I don’t ...

I have another great news for all LumberJocks. Today I was contacted by the Marketing Manager of Fine Woodworking Magazine. They decided to offer a free one year subscription to their great magazine for both category winners.
So that’s it – the prize table just got bigger again and I accept no excuses for not submitting your projects into the contest ;)
Note that I will update the Prizes section on the Awards pages tomorrow.

I’m embarrassed to admit that I haven’t done a thing in my shop since November unless you count the Christmas tree I made.
We don’t have any kids in the house to nag us to death about getting a tree and our dogs aren’t any help in motivating us to get one. They always seem surprised that they have new toys on Christmas morning, even after the big decoration session of the night before.
In any event, we had no tree, so I took a couple or three 1×2s, split the...

A few years ago, before we were married, Dana and I went to Ohio to visit her family. They all live close to Akron, which is most of a 10 hour drive, so we’ve always flown up there, and this time was no exception.
As much as I’m a conservative, Dana’s mom is a liberal, so we try to avoid those kinds of topics. But one thing we all enjoy is going to estate sales, so more often than not, we’ll hit one or two every trip.
On this particular trip, we happened by a sign that said a small fa...

As I sit here taking the time to type a few words my dishes sitting waiting for me to start the morning routine. Routine house duties are usually completed long before now but distractions have led me astray and I have followed.
My little lanyard project sits here by my computer, a reminder of my first attempt at wood carving. As I sat looking at it this morning I mulled over the suggestion to put the rope markings in it and Rick’s input this morning seconded this feedback. So that w...
