« Part 1: Building the base. Part 2 of 3D Router series Part 3: Gantry and Y-axis »

So on with the 3D router build. I have had this project complete for several months but realized I never post the updates on LJ’s. So all this is copy and pasted from my GJ thread.

I have about 96% of the materials and parts to complete. Missing a few misc screws.

Been working on it the last 2 days and here is my progress.

Cutting and drilling the aluminum angle iron for the X axis runners.

I clocked all the screws.

Both sides done. This is simple work but it took me about 2 hours to complete all this. I am in no big hurry but really enjoying this build.

One side secured. I tried to clock all these screws for you Rian but the power drill makes it too hard. Ha.

Other side done. Had to make sure these were absolutely parallel and level with each other.

So remember the tabletop that was two pieces glued an stapled together. I had a good run of luck and missed them during the initial cut. Well this little guy was right in the way of a 45 degree cut on the edge so I had to remove him.

Laying out the two uprights for the y axis gantry.

Cutting the slots on the side for the y axis stops.

Both sides done.

Started assembling the gantry. I really got into the build and forgot to take very many pictures.

I had to quickly mock up the bearings before I shutdown for the day.

Its starting to come together. I can’t wait to give this thing a test drive.

Closely following bj’, would be interested in a similar build. Any particular plans you working of or are you just winging it?

LBD I am using plans from Paoson Woodworking. $20. Full sketchup, autocad, pdf’s, full size templates for nearly every piece.
