« Part 3: Looking Sharp Part 4 of Plane Restoration series Part 5: The Encore »

Today I got around to doing a bit more work on the chip breaker. Got it sitting on the blade nice and flat. Did some more work on the sole as well and that is looking really nice now. Put it all back together and got to work…

I’m blown away. I have no experience handplaning at all, but this felt great. I flattened a cup out of this board and squared up the edges. Yes, me. Dang.

Really happy with this plane now. It’s ready for use, and regular maintenance, as far as I’m concerned.

Eventually, I think it’ll need a new blade. As previously shown, there’s some bad pitting on the back of this one. It’s still back far enough where it’s not causing a problem, but that won’t last forever.

Now, onto finding a No 7 to restore…
