I’m building this bench for my 5 years old son so he can work with me in the shop. He love to work with me. He was asking me for a bench at his size for the past year. I built the top, leg and stretcher out of left over from my garden shed. I use walnut for the vise chop and maple for the hub. I’m building the vise system myself and it’s going very well. I had some shop time this weekend so i made the garter plate to complete the leg vise. I use cherry because i just love the contrast of cherry on walnut. I start to put a finish on the leg vise, i use one coat of Polymerized Tung Oil Sealer followed by 4 coat of polymerized Tung oil.
Finally got some time to put it all together. This is a complet leg vise, waltnut jaw, maple hub, cherry gater plate. Works as good as it looks!
One bench done and pretty happy with it. Now i’ve got to find time to built a bigger one for myself…..
