After clamping and rough sanding the columns the next step will be to rout in the recess.
This is something that could have been done before the actual glue up, but I forgot to read the manual so it will be done as the second step.
I laid out the size of the recess and decided that building a box around the column and using my 4” base laminate router would give me the spacing that I needed.
Here’s the box with the column inside.
I started out routing all the way around the ouside.
Then went back and forth to clean out the center.
This was taking to long and leaving to many grooves in the bottom so I changed the method. I added a long pc. to the inside of the box to act as a spacer to move the bit over and then went the long direction again and it left a much cleaner bottom. (sorry, no picture of that)
Here are the finished columns, I did the same method for the small columns also.
I glued sandaper to small blocks that fit inside the recesses to sand them with.

I left the small radius on the corners for now, not sure yet if I want to square them or not.
Next series I will attach the small coulms to a finished side and will build the cabinet boxes. Not much exiting to that, so will just show pics of the cabinets with the columns attached.
