Spent the summer resurfacing my deck. Next spring I plan to replace the rails and stairs.
These pictures aren’t in exact chronological order but do show the fun I had.

Wow it looks like your sub deck was in bad shape, even though the deck surface looks great ,I think you might be sorry that you didn’t replace your subdeck with pressure treated wood especially in a climate like you have in Washington,. I build lots of decks. I hope it last longer than I’m guessing it will. Sorry to interject a negitive on your nice looking deck.I thought it was best for me to mention it for others who are thinking about the same type of repair.
Sorry Don

Thanks Jim. I always appreciate your feedback. I did replace a lot more of the sub deck with pressure treated lumber than the pictures show because of rotting. I scraped and repainted all of it which was mostly fine. It was just the spots that were lined up with the edge of the roof where water tends to puddle that were really bad.

Since I do decks for a living I always want to overkill any work I do .It’s your own personal deck you can do what you think is best ,I sincerely hope your painting the remaining fir joist holds up for you. The deck surface looks as good as any decks I have done. Thanks for not taking my comments the wrong way.

I used to build and repair decks for a living when I was younger so I do know what to look for. I replaced everything that wasn’t really solid.
