For the last 5 years since I bought a house and set up a shop in my garage I've been keeping my machines sqeezed into "my" side of the garge so that my wife could park her car in "her" side. My devious plan of "forgetting" to put stuff away so she could get her car in has paid off. She's finally given up and fully accepted that I really do need the whole garage for my shop. That's about 100 square feet or 50% increase in space. I'm in the process of remodeling it to take advantage of the extra space and will update my shop pictures when done. If you saw my recent review and picture of my new Bosch chop saw, that's sitting on a bench right where the front of her car used to be.
You do know that EVERYTHING comes with a price? You owe her BIG TIME now. Perhaps the first (new) dust created could be for her benefit. Good fortune and good luck!
My space is what is left over after using:
Washer, dryer, freezer, central heater, water heater, 6' x 6' wall pantry shelves, one full long wall of shelving plus another half-wall for general storage that we have accumulated over the last 48 yrs. of marriage. Doesn't leave much for me!
So, I congratulate you for being able to use 100% of your garage!
I'd be in hog heaven if I could do that… (& still not have enough room! )
Randy, she already gets nearly everything I make and I pay the mortgage by myself so I think she owes me. (good thing she doesn't read my blogs though).
Joe, I don't quite have 100% yet. There's about another 50 square feet being used to store her junk. I'm guessing it will take another 2-3 years to get ahold of that space.
Don LOL to the last part with 2-3 years
congrat´s with the build of 100 in a snap…..wait it toke you 5 years ….. hmm long time to build a ½ shop
still congrat´s you are a lucky man to have such a wife that is suporting you
now you better build the carport and something to organise her (junk )
maybee you can get 1 or 2 squarefoot more out of it
Don, your wife must be a very understanding woman. I have often said that if I asked my wife to give up her garage so that I could have a bigger shop I would be building a doghouse because I would be outside in the weather before her vehicle would be.
Congrats on annexing the space. Now you have room for more tools! Woo hoo!
Here in Gainesville my wife has 1/2 of the garage taken up with her long arm quilting machine and… boy! ...that's not going to change. I'm left with 192 sq. ft and glad to have that.
In four more weeks I'll be back to my "Workshop in the Woods", I can hardly wait.
Congrats! I have been in a swerve for the 8 years I have lived in my house…..between my wife thinking shes going to park in our 1 car, or it's going to be my shop. I built a shed to get all the stuff out of the garage, and told her I was going to put everything on wheels so she could park in there when the weather was bad. She realized once I made a few counters and benches that wasn't going to happen. She still jabs me about it whenever it rains or snows….
I'm sorry for you, having to work in such a tiny area.
And I thought I was cramped for space in my 560²ft of space!
Of course, I still have to move the machines back to let the family car park overnight.
Wheels on tools is a nice thing.
