no previous part Part 1 of Mountain Deck series no next part

I got laid off from my job in April and have been trying to find work in my chosen profession ever since. It ain’t going so well. I have been told that I’m a relic and that they only want young yes men nowadays. Well they can kiss my grumpy 45 year old chief’s adze.
So after a few weeks looking, my mother and aunt told me they wanted me to pay me to build a deck on their retirement cabin up in the mountains.
I thought cool. “Two weeks a couple a grand in my pocket. Awesome! Me and my boy will go knock this out and use it like a mini-vaca.”
How do you charge your own mom for

change orders. Cuz I’m now at the end of the third month here is where I stand.

Welcome to Ljs
I build lots of decks this looks like a great start. Obviously, your mom was looking for a way to help you out, how about a 50% discount on labor,if you do it for free then you defeat her efforts to help.

She has already paid me and I have saved her about $5k on the labour not to mention change order costs. I have no idea at this point what that savings maybe. The latest changes is she asked if I could build a pergola over it.

Welcome! I build decks for a living and all my jobs are fixing decks that the youngsters have effed up. Looking good.

Snipes, this forum is for constructive criticism. Please take you flaming commentary elsewhere.

Skully I thought I was being constructive? To me it looks like job security for deck fixers as yourself. Looking good?? you can’t be serious…
