I am an artist by nature, my father raised me to appriciate all forms of mediums. My primary medium has always been paper and whatever drawing utinsel I could get ahold of. It was my 1st year in college that I discovered cigar box guitars (cbg’s) and fell in love with wood working. My first attempt only cost me $20 to make and sounded great even tho it had a few dead frets becuse I didn’t and still don’t have all the proper tools to make one. Being creative I just made do with whatever I had around, box knife, files, sandpaper, sharpe, etc. I have always been drawn to woodwork I do not know why. My brother on the other hand always was better at sculpting than I was, clay, paper, whatever he could make a great piece. I hope that he would join me in making cigar box guitars so we can start our own company.
I have not made a cbg in a long time, I have boxes stored up and a few supplies ready to make atleast 3 of them but I just havn’t found the motivation. Well that is the wrong word to use but that is what I said. I mean I havn’t had the right inspiration to make one. I need something to inspire me and I think I know what I am missing. I need to practice playing on the one I do own. I need to be better at playing I think I am discouraged because I still do not have enough skill at playing so I feel dumb making an instrument. So I will practice more and get my skill up to a certain level before I start making them…..scratch that I will make it along my journey and the next one I make will be a piece to express my journey.
