The beautiful tree. You can see by the branches that it provided shade and a home to many.

My heart goes out to the fallen, It will be sorely missed.

I hope that you can salvage many pieces and see them turned into pieces of beauty and provide many fresh memories to others.

Barb, I know it is sad to lose a tree such as this one. I am glad to hear that you are managing to salvage the wood. This tree should provide you with plenty of wood for the forseeable future.

Years ago I lose a cherry and two ash trees and, being unable to find anyone to mill them since I did not own a band saw, had to let them go for firewood. Needless to say I stayed at work until the tree people were finished since I did not think it was appropriate for them to see a grown man cry. :)

I’m now finding word is getting out about the abundance of wood from this old tree, and am having company for two days in a row of woodworkers bringing trailers and chainsaws to help disperse some of this. I’m so glad it won’t go to waste. All I’m asking is at least pictures of what people make with it, and a signed bowl wouldn’t be a bad thing either! I am glad this beautiful wood is going to be used instead of burned, thanks to internet connections and people eager to do the work. The party’s at Barb’s house!

Wood is Good! I built a new double shelf to fit under an assembly table, as my little drying rack filled up quickly with wood blanks. So today I was able to un-bury the tablesaw and put some blanks on this new shelf. I have a little room left on it for more stump-cutting, but it sure filled up faster than I thought it would. I’ve shared a little with local woodworkers (Autumn brought a car, filled the trunk and back seat, and drove away scraping the bumper) but I’m thinking now the remainder of what I can cut may have to be stored outdoors and covered, with pith removed, and see how it fares in a year or two. I guess there really can be ‘too much of a good thing.’
