and Barb is finally getting serious. I’ve worked long long hours all the month of May and been meeting other deadlines as well, so, still trying to build one of my two tables to photograph!
One thing I’ve wished is that I had built Christopher Shwarz’s kneeling saw bench, as I had to resaw a mahogany slab 17”x15”x2” with a handsaw after cutting all edges with the tablesaw to about 3” deep. The only way I had to hold the thing was a bench vise, which closed the bottom edges if tightened, so it was a big challenge just to get the two top pieces divided.
I need support for a second shelf recessed above the bottom shelf, so decided to cut brackets as Dale Peart illustrates, which don’t go with the Thorsen Hourse table, but what the hey. Still cogitating on ebony plugs, as I haven’t enough ebony to do a full job of the whole table. I may use it some other way, as for drawer pulls, if I can eke out enough for two drawer designs.
I’ll be Lucky to get one table done by Thursday, but I’m sure going to give it a go. Now, if my office just doesn’t call needing me for an emergency again…..

I can’t wait to see the table! I like hearing about the trials and tribulations of a build. The things we have to go through, the decisions and compromise. It makes for some very interesting reading and makes your build a learning process for the rest of us. Thank you!

Barb -
Are those the brackets that appear on some of the Blacker House furniture? If so, then that is a great design feature.
Resawing with a handsaw? Wow, that exceeds my ability.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. Spent all day in the shop yesterday, and am hoping for the same today. I could have slapped together a table, but decided on some detailed hand work to do it the way I want it, so I’m hearing Karson’s “go Barb go…” as I sit at the bench hand carving leg indents at the bottoms of the knuckled feet! I figure I have until midnight Thursday to get it finished and photographed, right? Whew…....

Sorry Obi…pix coming. Bad news today; I have been called to work Wed. night at 6:30pm, to stay out two nights in hotels and drive three different loads through Friday night, so—o
now Thorsen table entry for me by month’s end. Sorry folks, I’ll just have to finish what I started and post pix later of my table. I’ve sure admired all the entries, way to go Lumberjocks!

oh Barb.. that’s really too bad…. you can’t even tape it all together and call it an entry, if you aren’t at home :(
well, at least we’ll still get to see your version when it is completed!

Were you able to complete the table? I’m sure Obi and Os are still waiting for Pics. Have things calmed down any?

hello Wayne, I’m surprised any of you remembered! No, not completed yet, but working in snatches on it. My schedule for all of May/June was pretty insane, and seems to be slowing down to a normal pace now. This week I’ll try to post some pics of the long work in progress. ;-)
