« Part 3: Holder #1, test drive Part 4 of Pine Auger bit box series Part 5: Updates.. »

Since this is supposed to open like a large book. Back page has been finished up. I placed a blank in the clamps this morning for the second page. Added the outsides on the bottom page..

Only need three pieces, this time. Page one did need some slots made, though..

Because there needed to be a way to lift a bit up out of the holder. Backsaw to define the slot. chisel to chop it out..

Then marked the side pieces for height, and saw them to size. Had to keep track of which set of fingers went where..
Then some Elmer’s, and some brass nails, then more clamps…..

Then leave them both sit all afternoon. This evening, out of the clamps they came. I was going to try out the new to me sanding center…

But used the new belt on the smaller belt sander. Cleaned things up on both glue-ups. Set the holder aside, have some plane work to do..

Flattened the faces, and one edge needed some work. I did finally find the spade bits. So, marked a center line and started to drill a few holes….

Yep. that be a corded drill. Seemed to power the spade bits better. Except, the spades were a might too short, had to “chase” some of the holes with a more “normal ” drill and bit..

I had long auger bits to do the 1/2” holes. Marked out the cut lines, again…

Then some saw work….this time the rip saw tended to wander off line a bit

Will have to “stone” the left side a tiny bit. Ok, more chopping with the chisels, a drill now and then as well, wide chisel to do a bit of carving. Lots of test fits. More chopping, carving, and even a drill used….until..

All the bits fit. Marked more side pieces, and cut them on the saw, again. Still trying to keep track of which end goes where. Finally, I think I can stack this mess up..

Let’s see….battery on the camera is going dead, I’m running out of cuss words, legs are starting to get crampy, so

I think I’ll stop for the night. I can glue, and pin the sides in the morning. Then start on the next pages, I think those will be a bit thinner, though. Lots of smaller bits to stash. Might try to find some latches, to match the hinges I need to install. Oh, and maybe make a lid? A book needs a “cover” right? Stay tuned…....

Bandit is his going to be in the style of a Russel Jennings multi-layer bit box?

Yep. I don’t have the hollow and round planes to make one of the R. Jennings’ boxes. So this is about as close as I can get.
