Well, snuck back to the shop for a bit. The sides for the lid needed a bit of rounding over…
The problem was here in the corners, Didn’t want the one roundover to run through the others. The shorter ends, I could just run through, the longer ones I did not want to on the insides. Got the short ends into the vise….what to round over with? too small for the corded router, did not have a small enough bit, anyway.
A few passes with a block plane solved that. Not a full circle sort of thing, just enough to”break” the edges. While I was at it, a little jointing was done. Got both short ends done…time for the problem sides.
A few extra tools were needed
The mallet and chisel to make a slight cut, to stop the round over. Spokeshave could start and stop using that. Then a pass to do the outside..
Got both long sides close to done, might as well get done the clamps and glue, again…
Took every one of these clamps I have…..somewhere in there is a lid glued up….Let it sit over night…
Today,I got the lid out of the Clamp Forest. Checked it for fit with the lid….Lid was a hair smaller? We have ways..
A pencil was run around, marking how much or little to plane off the box. Boxes sides are thick enough to allow that. Clamp each side in the end vise, and plane away the “excess”. Those are shadow lines from the drop cords.
Finally got everything planed down to match the lid…..
Not too bad. There is a shadow line around the box, between the lid and the box….on purpose. Gave the box a spiash of “alkee-haul” to see what the grain MIGHT look like..
Maybe a few coats of shellac to act as a finish? Need to fit the hinges…sometime..
Debating on how to install these…..surface mounted, or, just show the barrel part? Stay tuned, the outside is getting close to being done….The inside? Wait and see….
