Went out and bought some brass hinges, well, at least they were brass PLATED. Picked up a latch as well.. A 3/4” x 3/4” aluminnum angle about 2’ long wound up in the cart as well..
measured for length, bandsaw to cut, had to metal blanks. Clamped them together. Chucked a bit bit in the drill press. Drilled a few holes along one side of the angles. Used the bandsaw to convert the holes into slots.
Dug up some mesh drawer liner. Cut it to width, plus a bit extra. Drilled some pilot holes to attach the angles to the box’s bottom. Test fitting as I went. had to widen a couple slots. Finally got everything to fit..
Clamped the box into the leg vise. Vix bit to make pilot holes to install screws for the hinges…
Rotated the box (rattle, clank, bit were still IN the box) and added a latch..
Second coat of that SMELLY BLO is on the box. Must have got some in the hinges, as the lid will stay open on it’s own..
I think I can call this box…done? Might need a coat or two more…
Didn’t get all of the bits in the box, but this will just have to do, for now….
Thanks were looking in..
