Almost got this box about sized up. Some tweaking at the corners, maybe. Time to add a bottom? Needs a groove made in the sides of the box, so
A Plough plane to cut some 1/4” by 1/4” grooves. Plane just MIGHT be a tad older than me?
I had a piece of pine scrap, almost the right sizes for the box. needed a rebate around the edges, though
So, a Wards #78 set to take a bit of the top, er, bottom of the panel. Seems I had the panel a might too smooth and shiny. Glare is worse than the top of my head…
Yep, took a handplane to both faces of the panel, to get the thing as flat as i could
Between the “Daylight Bulbs” in the overhead light, and that smooth pine. Test fit the sides to the panel
Hmm, seems to be a bit too wide? It was out of square, as well. Drag out another jig
A Home made shooting board. Just a 2×6, with a rebate along one edge. A stop ( that piece of Oak on top) is set square to the rebate. Slap a piece against the stop, and run a plane down the rebate until the entire edge is flush. Plane is a #414c by Sargent, aka a Jack plane. Ran all four edges this way. Then had to go back and re-cut the rebates on the panel to match the “new” edges. There is a LARGE knot on one edge, though.
Ok, another test fit, with clamps, no less
well, we be getting closer. At this rate, I might, just might, have a lid fitted to this box by…..June??
Thanks for looking in…
