Starts down in the Dungeon Shop. I have a belt sander set up in a vise.

And a pair of block plane irons to work over.

This is how they looked when they came back from the Dungeon Shop. Backs were flat…

and the makings of a decent 25 degree bevel for the edge. Next up, the first of three oil stones…

A cheap, little Buck Brothers from Home depot last year. Two grits, don’t remember what they were. Gave it an oil bath, and worked both irons on both sides of the stone. Next, a larger stone I had for a few decades, don’t remember where it came from, or what grits were on each side. Gave it an oil bath..

The strange thing is, this older stone’s “Coarse ” side is fine than the BB’s “Fine grit” side. Again, I did both irons on both sides of this stone. I freehand each time, mainly a side to side, and swirly sort of thing. I keep a fingertip out at the edge (getting oil all over my fingertip) to make sure the edge stays in contact with the stones. last passes are on the back, flat, and slide the length of the stones. kind of keeps the wear down to almost even, that way.

Next up? A Mystery Stone. Dried out, it is a light Purple colour. Oiled up, and ready to go…

A “Deep Purple” ( a stone with a rock band name??) shows up. The iron sitting there is after the first two stones. After the Dep Purple gets done playing….

Even that pitted old Sargent iron is looking better. How much better? Well, I took that sargent iron and the #130 clone back down to the Dungeon Shop. A small setting hammer got some shavings to appear..

Are these two irons down to a “micron” of flat? Doubt it. Do they work as is. Looks like. Cost for today? An old sanding belt-$0.00….3-in-1 oil (on hand) $0.00….Three stones ( long ago, unknown other than a $3 BB stone)$0.00…..Time 1.5 hours. After all of that work….

I am ready for a nap…
