« Part 4: LONG day in the shop Part 5 of Next Kitchen Project series Part 6: face frame and a back »

Needed to mill some rebates, get the second frame done….and buy some screws..
Second frame, the one the drawer will be sliding on…

Was glued up, spent most of the day waiting on the glue to cure…rebates?

Set up the Stanley 45. Once I figured out which were the backs of the two side panels, I could mark where to put the rebate,,clamp each side panel to the side of the bench..

Mr. Stanley does NOT like knots, had to chisel a couple out of the way…

Decided to make a few corner blocks..

Yes, they are indeed all the exact same size….and get them installed

I use these to attach the top to the case. layout lines were marked, to show where each part will go..

Then transfer the marks to the other side’s panel….was all set to start attaching things..

No screws? I had maybe 6 that were the right length…..meant a trip to Wall E World ( NOT paying Lowes prices) so that meant an hour’s downtime…..Store is just 2 miles away…was VERY busy…5-8 people at each checkout…

After supper had settled in…took all the screws and such to the shop…hope the drill batteries are charged up.

Cleats for the two shelves…

Top frame….had an issue with where it wanted to go..vs..were I wanted it to go,,,,

Shelves installed, second frame installed….now the “dance” begins…I have to flip this mess over and on top of the other side panel….while also getting said panel onto the bench in the right direction…fighting to get the ends in the right spots…and the shelves screwed to the cleats…

Then take the mess off the bench, place the top good face down on the bench. Figure out which edge was the “front” and then hoist the rest of the case back on to the top. Corner blocks have a slotted hole, to allow the top to move. one screw per corner block, left a hair loose. don’t want them to bind up.

Set this mess back onto the floor….

Lay out a couple curved corners…sabre saw to cut. Beltsander to clean them up, and the top itself..

I think that will be enough, for one day…
Today being a Monday, shop is NORMALLY closed….not this time around….but, that is for the next exciting episode…stay tuned ( why is my back sore?)
