A start up
Have a large pile of Maple, and other hardwood scraps in the shop. Don't really want to burn them….maybe a bit of resaw work….and wind up with a Frame & Panel Box/ Mini Chest?
May make it similar to a Walnut & Cherry box I made a long while back. First, need to resaw some of the chunks down a bit..
Part of the stash. Bandsaw has a 1/4" blade on it..
While it is less stress on the saw, with the replacement motor, at least it is sharper than this one..
Them teeth have been hitting just about everything but wood….1/2" wide….may buy a new blade, someday..
1/4" blade wasn't doing too badly, though. had an issue with the motor..it shut itself down…..would not start back up…..until I pointed over to where the "old" motor was sitting….and said something like…"You CAN be replaced"
Begorrah, if'n it didn't start right back up…LOL. Once I got these first parts sawn..
I tried to flatten things out, using a jack plane…..turned out to be a bit too big for this job..
A Stanley No. 3c seemed to be just about right…both for the flattening of the face grain..
Did a decent job as a jointer, too. Ganged a batch up and work them all until the matched..
Set these aside….had two others, that needed squared ends…
Seemed to do the job…the two boards?
Yes, there are two boards there….was going to book match them for a lid….wasn't wide enough…more on that in a bit..
Set up a jig, to help resaw some parts to make frames with..
Got what I could at 1-1/2" wide…then finished cutting the left-overs at 1" wide..
They will need to be jointed, and plane for thickness. Found a few more thin parts…
May be able to do a few glue ups, for wider panels?
Decided to add a center board to the lid's panel..
ROYAL PITA to glue and clamp up….into a forest of clamps….had more for the cauls than for the glue lines…
There is a caul front and back, on both ends. Will let this mess sit a day…or two.
Need to work on parts for the frames…..then size the panels to fit. Pieces that don't fit…there is always the FirePit…May need to haul the Stanley 45 out, again. Tongue & Groove joints for the corners, and a 1/4" groove to house the raised panels. Cussing has already started..
Stay tuned…
