« Part 6: Assembled....and a forest of clamps Part 7 of Maple Frame & Panel Box series Part 8: Handles installed, case is varnished »

Before I left for the hospital stay…and knowing no stairs would be allowed….I brought the box and the lid up stairs.

Lid had been sanded, front corners were cut round. Block plane to ease a few edges….then let it sit a while…

Until that hole in the leg heals up, this is going to be my shop….working as I can…lid?

Not much was done yesterday..once I got back home…was a tad “loopy”. Hinges are a small item I can do, today.

Yep, they are small….needed a small pilot hole bit..

The smallest bit that Yankee push drill had, in fact….installed the hinges on the lid, first. Then pilot holes into the box. SMALL screws..

Needed a small Phillips screwdriver. Managed to get the hinges installed onto the box…

Thinking of adding a handle on each end, to lift the box with…centered on the raised panel..

Had to have the Grandson go back down to the shop, and bring up a few items….can of Shellac, a brush for it, a can of Poly Gloss, and a tool tray..

Had a couple larger handles in there, too…

Can be installed like this, or..

Like this. May go with the first option. Lid could use a handle to open the box with..

But..which one? Should it be here on top, at the front edge? Or, centered in the edge of the lid? Large one? Small one? Will see how things go….and heal up..
Stay tuned..
