« Part 12: one drawer fitted, another begun Part 13 of Chest of Pine Drawers series Part 14: Last of the dovetails are done »

Just one more to do.
Got busy yesterday….rest of the dovetails for the (NOW) top drawer were done. Had an issue with a knot right where the dado was going through…

Was a bit rough on the Stanley #39. Mitre saw wasn’t cutting the walls level..was hard to see the far side.
Got out a panel saw, to level the cuts..

The knot didn’t bother this saw a bit. First drawer seemed to like the middle opening better..

So the second drawer made is now the Top Drawer. Managed to get everything glued up…

This time, I installed one screw through the bottom panel…THEN pulled the diagonals into square..

And set out the knobs fro later. In the quest for something to do while the glue cured..

Stairway to the shop got a much needed sweeping…..and even the floor!

Was after Supper last night, before the clamps came back off….and the drawer was cleaned up

Sanders and a handplane were used to level these joints

A mark was made to show where a knob would go….5” in from each end, centered on that center dovetail

Hole was drilled, and the knob installed, with it’s own bolt..and a spot of glue. That huge knot also got some sawdust and glue filler..

Then a test fit…

Something looked a bit…”off”...

Hmmm…well, I had a strip of Pine scrap about that thick….decided to cut a piece for each side of the opening, and glue and nail them to the inside edges of the face frame….NOT the drawer.

Second time looked a bit better. Looked through the pieces I had set out for the last drawer..

Needed four good pieces…only had three….and one WAS for the back of the drawer….Hmmm.
Got the front piece fitted to it’s new home..

Without the gaps. Which left these two boards..

I figure I can buy a 2’ Project board at Lowes, cheap…and use that as a back…I can then use these two as the drawer sides….at least they look better than some of the other scraps I had…
One of the sides has an extra feature..

That be a Bullet sitting there….someone had shot that Pine tree before it was cut into lumber.

Still no van…don’t feel like walking in the rain. I can get the front and the two sides done, and ready for the back…whenever it gets here. Can also run this router bit around the edges of the top of the case..

And get the top sanded smooth.

Bandsaw will have to wait, until the Chest of drawers is done , and out of the shop…then it can be torn down, and rebuilt..

Stay tuned…..almost done…
