« Part 8: Clamps are off, top is on... Part 9 of Chest of Pine Drawers series Part 10: Plugging along »

Trying to get caught up….from a “Lost Weekend” and a VERY BAD Monday…..somehow managed to get a back installed…

The way the case was…26” wide..vs..24” wide panel…..laid the panel sideways ( 48” wide?) and cut one panel to fit.
Will get the other section in a moment….you will notice I have the face frame installed. Just 6 sticks of pine..

Glued and screwed in place. I used counter-bored holes, and will fill them with matching Pine plugs. Have a Veritas Tapered Plug Cutter that cuts 3/8” tapered plugs…..from face grain board. Of course, went to dig out the 3/8” forstner bit to drill the counter-bores…NADA….had to go out and BUY a new bit…..going to be one of those weekends..later, I installed the rest of the back panel…..had to fine tune the cut with a plane…

A look inside. Glue, nails, and a few screws, to secure the pack panels. Then worked on drawer guides..

Just scrap 1×2s….didn’t need to go the full depth….3/4s of the way was fine. The webframe for the top drawer was a tad too skinny….added a bit more width for the drawer to slide on. those two needed to go the entire way..

Here is a view. As far as I can tell, the other frames will be wide enough….barely….I can add runners if need be.

Even had to hoist the case back onto the bench, to better install the bottom guides…even did some rough sanding (180 grit) around the front…couldn’t reach the top..

And was getting ready to do the plugs…..glue bottle came up..empty. Figures. Left the case sit….then lost a weekend. Was a good thing the case was on the bench….had a heavy rain storm come through today…..and there was a couple shallow creeks going across the shop floor. I did manage to get a new bottle of glue, and 6 knobs today. The way this Monday was going….I think that will do….no sawdust was disturbed on Monday.

Maybe Tuesday…I can get back to work…for two whole days…..van is in the shop..radiator troubles…just one of those Mondays.

Maybe try to build a few drawers….only need three? Stay tuned…

I’ve learned quite a bit watching these builds of yours. One day I may have time to try one. Your doing a great job with it and it is looking great.
