« Part 1: A start up Part 2 of Bed Frame, out of Pine series Part 3: head board joinery done... »

Yep, part one….otherwise this episode will be too long of a read….Need to chop/mill/ cuss places for the rails to sit..

Once I knew where the “top and bottom” of the joint was…mitre boxes made the square cuts….then this vintage saw ..

Was set to the required depth of cut, and made a lot of cuts…

Ever wonder why some chisels are called “Beaters”?

Old wide chisel, drive it down, the beat on the side of the handle…to pop all the “wafers” loose. Pick those off, and into the trash can ( was going to be a bunch of them today, didn’t feel like walking on them..)

Which left this mess to clean up….used a couple chisels..

To get the playing field leveled

Ok, one done….repeat for the others….these will be where the bedrails sit in. Since the rails join together, means I need even more cuts made, for the other rails..

Posts go to the “outside” of the rails, leaving a smooth corner for the mattress to sit at…once I made sure of the required locations…clamped the post in the vise, made a few more cuts..

Hmm, “Quackers”? Cleaned these off, and worked on the next post..

And made sure the cuts lined up…

Took awhile to do all four posts….involved a few other toys, too.

Block plane, and a spokeshave, to help smooth the floor of the joints better…

Housed joints for the rails are done..Part 2 will be about the head board work ….stay tuned…
