« Part 3: Another glue up, with problems Part 4 of A project in Maple series Part 5: Getting assembled... »

Even got a few things done! Right after this morning’s Blog post, went to the shop. Had the panel to be raised..

Once that was done….started on the frames to hold the raised panels….Had some “leftovers” took those to the existing panels…..marked for length. Marked for width at 1-1/8” wide. Set up the resaw jig. Ran all four stiles through. Then ganged them up, after cutting a foot detail on one end..

#4 smooth plane was still out, used it to remove the saw marks. Flipped them over..

And worked on this side…..used the raised panel to set up to cut the rails to size..

Seems the old center stile was about the right size….used the mitre saw to cut four blanks..

Used the last of the 1×4 Birdseye Maple….

Reset the resaw jig to the width needed. Which meant it was time to get groovy..

Needed to build a jig to hold the rails still long enough…

Used a “new” candle to help the plane slide along better..

After each groove was milled, I tried something else..

Little 60-1/2 block plane to bevel the insides of the groove, just a little bit….

Seems to help the panel settle into the groove…
Rails were done, needed to groove the stiles…needed a different jig, since the stiles were on the thin (1”) side…

Again the block plane made a few bevels. Soon enough, I had all the grooves made..

I got the other panel out of the clamps, used the first one to trim this one to match..

This one looks like it will be “FUN” to do the raised panel stuff to….
Decided to at least get one frame ready for glue…or try to….Needed tenons milled. Got them marked out, and made the shoulder cuts on the mitre saw..

Then used the bandsaw to make the cheek cuts..

Then got out the mortise jig. Had to reset it to 3/4” width….and attached it to the bench..

Was past Lunchtime ( 2:30 !) so I closed up until after Suppertime tonight….Maybe I can chop a few mortises, and do a glue up. Trying to avoid working on Mondays. Hope this glue up goes a little bit better…

Stay tuned….
