« Part 13: More drawer, and other follies... Part 14 of Maple Chest of Drawers series Part 15: Last drawer, and a PIP »

Well, I was only going to go to the shop, to remove those three pipe clamps…...Yeah…right…Monday, or no Monday…things were going to get done….

Pipe clamps came off….wrestled with the drawer for awhile….Walnut strips were added, and the two knobs installed…drawer is back in some clamps..

Just slightly different ones. Got the Drawer #2 all cleaned up, since those clamps came off of it….and stashed it in the case..

Which left Drawer #3 as the only one with “naked” dovetails…..clamped it in the vise, and got out a saw..

Also had to clamp the drawer to the bench for some of the cuts. Some were the width of the dovetails, some like this was for the thickness of the Walnut strips. Then some chisels, a rasp, and a slick to clean and level the “bed” for the strip….a coat of glue…moosh it around a bit with the walnut strip….got it to where it looked decent…and used a few small nails to “pin” it in place until the glue dries….and stashed the drawer in the case

Four down, one to go. Hauled that 8’ long 1×8 plank down the steps….grrrr. Wanted to hit everything on the way.
Finally slamed the plank onto the bench. Marked out for two pieces at 24” or so long…plus a few extra 1/16” for trimming….then a cordless saw..

I figured the worse of the two will be the drawer’s back..and this will be the front of the bottom drawer..

Yes, it is Maple….not quite as curly. The rest of the plank?

Had “Trouble” written all over it. Already have the two sides cut, need to start more “Naked” dovetails, next time. IF I can find where I tossed the 1/4” plywood remains at, I can cut a panel for the bottom.

Stay tuned….one more drawer to go…then the Amber Shellac?
