I am a Computer Systems and Network Architect trying to become a hobby woodworker. My grandfather was a talented woodworker when he was alive, and I still tear up thinking about the fact that I didn't inherit his tools to keep them in the family and in use. He was a mechanic before he retired, and because of him and my father I grew up working with tools of all sorts.

Now as I get ever closer to being over the hill myself, I find working in my shop (garage) to be a much needed therapeutic break from the hectic and stressful parts of life. Professionally, I build both physical and virtual things that do amazing work. I enjoy that quite a bit, but sometimes it's nice to build something a bit more tangible that didn't have a deadline attached to it.

Like so many woodworkers (And wanna be woodworkers like me), I dream of the shop I will some day build. Right now, I just have my two-car garage but I'm working pretty hard at making it a viable woodshop. One of the best parts about this stage of my new hobby - even the things I screw up are fun, full of lessons to be learned, and ultimately still provide some valuable use.

After spending quite a bit of time lurking on LJ, I thought it was time to join. This seems like a great community of people.
