I’m still waiting for my mini kanna to arrive, and I’m kind of in-between big projects. I’ve really got nothing noteworthy going on. It’s been a slow period for my woodworking, consisting of nothing more than a sharpening day last week.
My wife kept dropping a deck of tarot cards and the box is now mashed up pretty good, so I decided to do a quick little project and build a card box. I didn’t feel like doing any “high woodcraft”, so I grabbed some scrap poplar and my clamps and glue and built this little thing.
No joints, no dovetails, nothing fancy at all. Just glued all the sides together then sanded it down and stained it with some dark walnut I had laying around. I’m normally opposed to stains, but in this case, it was preferable to the home depot quality crap-wood poplar that I used.
Then I made the lid, and attached it with some short ring-shank nails and a leather strap, and called it good. She loves it, so it was well worth the time investment, and a good use of some scrap that would otherwise go in the fire.
