I don’t know much about exotic woods but I have stumbles across a small limited source of it, and wow is it great stuff! I want to post some pictures in help identify some of this. I know what some of it is, just not sure on the rest. The picture of all the pieces I got today only cost me $10.00 There is some Red Palm, Ebony wood & Zebra wood. it’s the little pieces I am not sure what it is. Not really sure if I got a good deal or not, from what I read the Ebony is real expensive wood. I am asking my LBJ friends for there input. I was planning to use all the wood for turning projects. Thanks & look forward to hear what you all think.

Todd, that is an unbelievable deal for $10, my friend. Two of the pieces (the bottom board in the second pic, and the end grain piece in the third pic) look like bocote, which is an awesome wood to turn because of its fine, irregular grain.

Not sure which kind of ebony that is but all of them are valuable. Check out this site ( http://www.hobbithouseinc.com/personal/woodpics/#letterE ) and you’ll be able to click through some pictures and see what it most resembles. Also, if you clean up one end of the board, it will give you a better look at the end grain, which is probably the best way to figure out what exactly you are dealing with.

Here is another great resource for wood identification, and the link will take you right to the page for Gaboon ebony, which is the most expensive kind ($90/bf and up): http://www.wood-database.com/lumber-identification/hardwoods/gaboon-ebony/

Nice score. Just be careful, some exotics may “mess” with you (health-wise)

$10 isn’t a deal, that’s a steal. The ebony alone is worth ten times what you paid for the whole lot.
