I love this site & have had really good experiences until today. This guy posed this message to me because I got a new Band saw & posted it with my projects to show my friends & fellow wood workers….. Dusty56 commented on a project:
————————————————————————————————-

Yes, I want to post my finished project that is made of wood
If it doesn’t fit the above description (like tool gloats & upgrades, wood gloats, projects in progress etc.),
either blog it or post it in an appropriate forum. Otherwise it will be removed.

Technically he is right, but common, seriously? I look at this sight as a brotherhood of wood workers, not cry babies! So for those who were offended about my posting my new Band saw, I do apologize to you. Will this stop me from posting new cool stuff to the shop as well as finished projects? Nope So sorry there Dusty56, I will keep posting away. They didn’t have to look at it, I guess his glues is frozen & can’t do ant thing right now. LOL

Todd,

I don’t think anyone is upset that you got a new band saw and want to talk about it. Actually, probably quite the opposite, the LJ community loves to gloat with those that get new stuff. However, I think what Dusty was trying to say is that the “Projects” section is where we can post, observe and comment on items that people in the community have built (out of wood) so that we can all be inspired to create/design/build things of our own. I get most of my inspiration for my projects from designs other LJers post in the “Projects” section. There are other places to post new tools and other items: Blogs, “My Workshop”, Forums, Videos, and Reviews.

I personally do not care if you post your band saw in the “Projects” section. I will merely bypass it because that is not what I am looking for in that section. But, just think of the amount of items we would have to bypass in the “Projects” section if everyone posted their new tools there. In his own way, Dusty is just trying to keep order in a woodworking forum with over 40,000 participants (who have 40,000 differing opinions of how this forum should be run).

I’m right there with Andy. Dusty was correct and there is a disclaimer about everything posted in “Projects” being made of wood. I can’t speak for him on his intention of the post and if it was intended to be brash or not. Sometimes people don’t intend to come across that way but they always seem to anyway. I don’t know how many arguments I’ve gotten into with my wife because our texting comes off badly to the receiver.

Here’s something for anyone who watches How I Met Your Mother that could help:
“Smiley faces are like the condoms of the text messaging world. I can say whatever I want without risk as long as I end it with a smiley face.”

without smiley:
You’re stupid

with smiley:
You’re stupid :)

See, stick a smiley at the end of his post a whalla, all better!

I agree & like I said he is technically right, I guess it rubbed me the wrong way because it was a one time thing.:) lol

Is he right? Ok probably. In the grander scheme of things, if that’s the worst thing that happens to me today I’ll be thrilled.

Todd,

And each time a LJ posts a non-wood item in Projects it’s a one time thing for that LJ at that moment. So, let’s all act like good little LJs and follow the rules now. :)

Have fun and remember…

would have been a good thing to post as a blog (a “Shop Tools” blog, perhaps), but it being in projects doesn’t bother me either. I primarily use the pulse anyway, so everything is all mixed in anyway :-)

(yes, a smiley lol)
