Modern Picture Fram

I was asked to frame this picture (already matted) by the Mother in Law. I try to design the frame to match the picture. Since the picture was more modern architecture I tried to match the lines and feel in the steps of the frame. Then since the blue and yellow were already chosen for the mats I decided to go with solid poplar for the material and a black laquer finish. The inlay is epoxy with copper flakes to match the copper on the side of the building.

Been working on these since the Holidays and finally finished them this weekend. They are the start of a full bedroom set. I took some plans for these arts and crafts style end tables from a book and modified the design with the styles, curves and pegs on the top and wood types.

Not sure when I will continue on the bedroom set, but at least this is a start.

The woods are Curly Maple and Walnut, with a R&C finish. All the joints are mortise and tenon and the top has bread board ends with walnut pegs. I was lucky to find some nice figuring in both the maple and walnut.

Last Xmas Gifts

Made these for my parents, found a plan in a mission style furniture book I have, tweaked the design to fit my taste a bit, mainly hiding the cord. One of the sides is butt jointed with screws and the other side is jointed with a sliding dovetail.

I have almost completely burned up my Jatoba stash and even though I love the look of the wood I am glad to be almost done with it. It is just miserable to work with, and my pile of tools needing sharpening keeps growing.

Its good to be done with gifts, this is the first year I am not trying to complete a project 2 days before the 25th.

Arts and Crafts Frame

Another christmas gift, this one for my brother. He had this picture and had been wanting to get it frame but hadn’t found anything he wanted. I decided it would be a good gift to frame it for him.

We have lived in New Mexico, so the picture is a familiar scene. Wanted to do something that blended with the art and the culture of the state but not to “Tourist” southwest. The cloudlift blended well and the blood wood picked up with the purple/pink hues of the sunset.

I am curious on what you all think.

Joints are mortise and tennon. Finish is shellac with danish oil.

Fancier than most of our stuff but the style goes well with the painting.

Wood is walnut and curly maple. R&C finish, wanted to try this method since I will be doing our bedroom set out of the same woods.
