« Part 2: Face Frame Part 3 of Dresser / Chainging Station series Part 4: Drawer slides, base and back »

Have been busy since the last entry, wedding, getting new windows ordered, Bradley class, phew! Made some progress on the dresser last night.

Most of the more time consuming cuts were done. I needed to cut 1/2” plywood to use for the floors in the drawer holes. I wanted to use plywood so I could place a runner in the middle of the shelf for the drawer to slide on. I’ll also put some sliders on the ends of the drawers as well. The sliders will be made from some scrap white oak.

On the back, I will have a 1/4” plywood panel with a piece of sassafras on the top and bottom to help with rigidity. I’ll be able to screw in these pieces from the outside as there will be a 1/2” sassafras round at the top and a 4” stand at the bottom. Everything else was installed with pocket hole screws and glue.

I’m happy with how this is turning out and think I will be able to make a dresser and end tables for my wife and I out of cherry to match our bed frame.

A couple of changes:
  • Bottom trim in sassafras
  • 1/2” round instead of 3/4” round
  • Inset drawers
  • Sassafras drawer pulls
  • Finish in General Finish Water Based Semi Gloss
Still not sure:
  • 1 or 2 drawer pulls?
