« Part 2: Might of got a Curly Hard Maple log today Part 3 of From Logs To Lumber series Part 4: Got some more Cherry logs today »

Today was a good day for logs. Got 3 nice Hard Maple logs the butt log is 20 inchs on the small end and is 13 feet long and got 2 shorter logs from the same tree that are each 10 feet long. Also got four cherry logs from the same cherry tree. The tree was dead and the sap wood had rotted away. It was still standing and when I cut it down it was in good shape. Also the same tree had a burl on it about 4 inchs square and I cut it off, it had some really wild looking grain. Looks like I might have to get some more anchorseal. I put anchorseal on the burl and saved it I don’t have a lathe but I might have to get one if I get a lot of burls. So the total logs so far is 7 hemlock, 1 hard maple that might be curly, 3 nice hard maple, and 4 cherry. And walking around in the woods I know that the total is going to be a few more.

Fantastic, Henry! I’m jealous. There are no woods here, though I’ve managed to collect quite a little pile from street trees that drop limbs, or fall over completely in the Santa Ana winds. I just got a lathe 2 weekends ago, and I encourage you to do the same if you can. It’s fun!
