« Part 7: Got all the logs milled Part 8 of From Logs To Lumber series no next part

The guy that my dad brought the saw mill from has a tree service. About a month ago he called me up to see if I wanted some Black Walnut logs. It didn’t take me long to say yes. The largest one is 34” across on the small end inside the bark and 8 feet long. The other large one is the next log up from the butt log. It should have some nice figure to it because it split into 3 at the top of it and the 3 small logs are from where it split. The guy that I got them from wants the 3 smaller ones and I have the 2 large ones. Should get them milled this week if things go right. Should be able to get boards that are 20 inchs wide from the largest one. The other one if it has good figure I will make a couple thick slabs from it. The picture has a 5 gallon gas can sitting in front of the largest log to give some idea how big it is.

Nice looking log. I would get some end sealer on them if you haven’t already. Good luck milling.
