HVLP OVERSPRAY - 11 replies Been thinking about acquiring a HVLP system to mainly spray oil based polyU. Concern is if the overspray would coat everything in my shop (including me) that is not covered. (A spray booth in my situation is not practical.) If overspray is minimal it seems like this would be 1000% faster than brushing and higher quality finish could be obta... |

Jorgensen Wood Screw Clamps - 2 replies So I bought 10 each size (0, 1, 2) of these used wood screw clamps at an on-line auction. I’d like to sell 5 of each size, so thought I’d give the LJ’s first whack at them. I’m suggesting $11.00, $13.00, and $15.00 each (size 0, 1, 2 respectivelly) plus shipping. Probably the only way this is cost effective is for gu... |

Sketchup - Problem With Laser Mouse - 16 replies I bought a new wireless Microsoft laser mouse 6000 V2.0, but I can’t get the middle button (wheel) Orbit, Pan, and Center View functions to work. Zoom works ok. Has anybody encountered this and figured out how to fix it? (The old wired mouse still works properly.) I am running Vista Premium and Sketchup 7. |

Old Lumber - 16 replies There are many old wooden chicken houses in the part of the country that have become eyesores and fire hazards. The county is going to pass an ordinance allowing them to be burned. When one of the local bureaucrats was asked about recycling the wood, he said it couldn’t, because it was “green” when the buildings were construc... |

First Heart Attack - Progress Report - 26 replies I just found out the results from a Nuclear Stress Test performed last week. The news is all great. They ran my heart up to 157 beats per minute heart and I had no pain. They also have a new machine which is basically la small CT scanner. It takes 64 x-rays of your heart while some radioactive stuff is circulating in your blood, and they tak... |

How To Stain Oak So Open Grain Is Not So Dark - 8 replies Normally I do not stain oak, but I am working on a project where I want a reddish brown color (cherry?). I do not want the open grain part of the wood to be significantly darker than the closed grain part. I am intending to use polyurethane varnish (after staining) for durability. If it makes a difference, I am using white oak wood. Anybod... |

Router Training Video - 3 replies Several weeks(?) ago someone had a link to a video on router usage. Want to revisit it but can’t remember where I found it. I seem to remember that it was quite long (10 minutes or so), and was part of a series on woodworking training. The instructor was middle aged +, it was in a class room setting but the students were never shown. ... |

First Heart Attack - 41 replies I had a totally unexpected heart attack 2 weeks ago, and due to God’s providence I started 12 weeks of rehab today. While I can now see some of the warnings with 20/20 hind sight, they were unheeded as I just didn’t think it could happen to me. Thankfully, I had my wife drive me to the ER “just in case” and they quickly... |

Dewalt DW625 Plunge Router - 17 replies Hey Fellow JocksI’m just about to pull the trigger and buy a new DeWalt DW625 Router, as my old Craftsman is not suited for some of the stuff I want to do in the future. My plan is to build furniture and near term projects include a dinning room table, and a office wall unit (base cabinets with book cases on top). As fill in projects I... |

Router Template - 7 replies I want to build a jig and template to profile many game board pieces. Plan A was to make a base out of 1/2 inch MDF which would be the surface for the template to sit on. The workpiece would then sit on top of the template. Lever clamps would hold the sandwich together. Was then going to use a pattern routing bit with a top bearing (bearing ... |

Tradesman 8368 Scroll Saw - Good or ?? - 4 replies Run across a fellow that has a Tradesman 8368 16 inch scroll saw that he never has used and it just sits in his garage. Other than some rust on the table it appears to work ok. I’ve been thinking about buying a Dewalt 20” (about $500.00) because my uncle who is big into intarsia swears by his. But, since I don’t intend to ... |

Offset Sticks To Transfer Measurement - 23 replies I’m having an oldtimers moment. Could somebody out there tell me what you call the two sticks that you place side by side and clamp together to be able to transfer very precisely the distance between two points to something else. |

Sketchup - 24 replies I just downloaded the free version of sketchup. It doesn’t work – when I try to open it I get what appears to be a normal screen but there is also a screen that is titled “learning center.” If I click anywhere I get a the spinning circle that never stops. If I click on anything else I get a “not responding”... |

CAD Software - 8 replies I’d to hear some opinions on free or inexpensive ($100) CAD software that works well for project designs. I have Turbo Cad Designer 14 but it seems like it may be too powerful and more focused on architectural drafting. This edition is 2D only. 3D would be great, as well as a fill feature that would show wood grain and color. |
