I am an amateur woodworker and have enjoyed it as a hobby for a couple years now. The thing that gets me excited about woodworking is working with my hands and being creative. Their is no limits to the possibilities when you grab a piece of lumber and start cutting and sanding. It's my release from life and I cherish every aspect of the craft from cutting stock to finishing.
My experience and knowledge is still limited but I enjoy learning everything I can. There isn't too many days that go by that I don't learn something new. If that is either a better way to cut or join wood, or a new design that I think of in my head. I find my self sitting at my day job and waiting till the day is over just to have some quality time in my shop.
I am happily in a relationship and plan to get married soon. She has a 6 year old son and I have gained instant family. The hardest part is balancing my love for woodworking with a family is that there is not enough hours in the day (too bad I have a day job! :). I tell my fiance all the time if she would rather have me spend my time drinking with buddies or at home in my shop? She laughs every time! Although, I think drinking with the buddies might be cheaper some days. :)

Hi there,
Welcome to LumberJocks… I joined the site myself a few months ago and will give you fair warning, this site is VERY ADDICTIVE, VERY EDUCATIONAL, and VERY FUN…. so sit back, enjoy the ride and learn from the other LJ’s as they are a group of extremely talented people that are also very friendly…
Enjoy your time here on LJ and pass the word to any of your woodworking buddies about us…

Welcome to LJs from a fellow Cedar Rapids resident. I look forward to meeting you in person and I hope you will consider joining one or both of the woodworking clubs in the Cedar Rapids area. In LJs you have 1000s of members who love to work with wood and love to help new people develop their skills. In our clubs we have a much smaller number of people who also love to work with wood and love to help new people develop their skills. Of course, at our clubs you get to meet and work with people face-to-face. At LJs you interact on the internet.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.
God Bless
