memorial cross plan - 2 replies

I would like to make a memorial cross for a friend who lost his son. I know I have seen one in one of the many catalogs I get but now can’t seem to find it. drill a straight hole!!?? Just got thru turning a pepper mill. Using the marks from the lathe I drill the hole for the mechanisms and the hole is not centered. I checked the drill bit to be sure that it was 90 degrees to table and that the mill also ninety degrees. The hole still exited off center. This is not the first time this has happen...

Can any one suggest a web site where I can get information what to look for in a spray gun and or a site where I can compare guns? I have found site that compare prices but not the actual guns. Also I would love to hear what you folks think I should look for. I am a hobbyist, would be spraying mainly shellac and lacquer and maybe occasionally...

Is there a difference between spraying paint vs spraying shellac besides technique? I have a spray gun I got from good old HF years ago and never used. I am thinking about trying to spray some finishes and thought I would practice with the HF gun before I bought a “good” gun. Anybody have and thoughts or opinons on this?

I just finished building a project using chinese plywood and boy am I unhappy. The veneer on the plywood was so thin as to be almost nonexistent. Could not do any sanding and when I tried to knock the edge of it chipped! No more buying wood from the big box stores. By the way this was the “hard wood” quality(?) stuff.

I am trying to find plans to make a light house to put in my garden. I have gone to a couple of different sties but unless I want to pay for them (shudder) I can only find plans for a lighthouse bird house. Anybody know where I could find free plans? Has anyone out there used that Countertop Transformation kit from Lowes? You “prepare” the counter, put down a adhesive base coat, then color chips and finish by applying a protective top coat. Somebody at work wants to try this and asked my opion. What do you folks think?

sanding the inside of bowls - 3 replies

How do you people sand the inside of your bowls? Do you just hold sandpaper in your hand and turn the lathe on or do you use some kind of foam holder on the end of a drill? Trying to hand sand a bowl and I can not get it line free.

I’m in the process of tuning up 3 hand planes. Still trying to flatten the soles. The arthritis in my thumbs really makes itself known quickly. Thought I would take a break and see what the rest of you people are doing. What cha doing?
