I have been looking for a jointer for some time now, wanting a quality product on a budget. I’ve nibbled and sniffed a few, but just couldn’t pull the trigger (sorry for mixing metaphors, for those who care about such things…).
This past weekend I finally did. I was going to post the question of how I did, but the realized it doesn’t matter. I know how much I spent and I’m at peace with it.
In the way of details, I bought a 10 year old Grizzly 6” z series. It has some surface rust, but no pitting. A significant amount of rust on the fence adjustment mechanism. The motor is sound. Probably will buy a new belt, but the bearings sound good.
Having never done any restorations of any kind, I’m a little intimidated. And, I’m not really sure where to begin. I guess I’ll see what is working, replace the blades, and go from there. I think several of the bolts a frozen, so ill have to break them loose and replace them.
What am I missing?
