LAMP TABLE #1: LAMP TABLE - THE MORTISES

<img src="redpre#0>" title="Mortise" alt="Mortise" />!http://(Mortise 2)!I was at a local joinery the other day so I decided to pick up so lumber for the lamp table project I was thinking of doing. I picked up some 2×2 american white oak. I went home that day and cut the oak down to 4 18inch lenghts for the legs. I marked the mortises out using a mortise gauge and decided to route the mortises out as i have never tried this method before. ( I’m a hand tool guy ) For this I though I’d go out ant treat my self to a new router bit, I picked up a 1/2’’ trend routing plunge cutting bit. ( I think trend router bits are now out in the states there worth a try ). I used the side fence on my router and cut the haunched mortise in steps. I first cut the ’’haunch’’ in the tennon and cut the full tennon out. After this I cleaned up the round end of the mortise and called it a day please let me know of any tips you have of on the cutting of mortises on a router Thanks!!!! PS: I’ll have the next part out on friday Thats the tennons and glue up.

Well what can I say the past few months I’ve been busy with the last of my exams for school so I’ve neglected lumberjocks over the past few months and I’ve missed it so much. After the exams this summer i got a project to do for my grandad, it consisted of a stud wall frame work or as you guys know it to be ’’drywall’’ which included a door frame skirting and architrade. I finished that job over two days since then I’ve been looking for a joinery apprentichip and nothing has come up so far so I’ll just have to wait and see. but the summer hasent been all doom and gloom I’ve been building up my contacts and found a local joinery that will supply me with how much timber I need and you will see this in my lamp table project in the next few weeks. check out my blog soon for this project

Woodworking with Aaron # NIGHTSTAND PROJECT # #1: NIGHTSTAND PROJECT

Over the past couple of months if have been planing to build a night stand for my bedroom I spent some time looking at designs for this project and have finaly found some ideas that I will use. This year in school I will also have to make a large woodworking project that will be examined and I will be given a grade on. So I decideto make a nightstand which in turn will help me practise my mortise and tennon joints and other various joints. I plan to use only hand tools for this project except for my drill and my router. Over the course of this project I hope to give step by step instructions on the making of this project. Next week I hope to release a 3D model of my nightstand and then the following week I’ll start work on the project itself. Hope to hear your comments and if you have any tips of your own on making nightstands SEE YOU ALL NEXT WEEK FOR THE SECOND PART !!!!!!

Woodworking with Aaron Video Podcast #1: Making a drafts board

Here is my first podcast , I’am re-releasing this in the right section of lumberjocks. In this video I go through the making of the basic drafts board. I’am using veneer on this project , I was also thinking about making this project out of purple heart and maple , like a cutting board design. I hope you like this video. Excuse the lighting I will improve the lighting in the second part.

The second part of this podcast will focus on making a box to exclose the drafts board and keep the pieces from falling out

The third part will consist of putting latches on the lid and applying a finish. If anyone has some tips on a finish for the veneer I was wondering would teak oil be any good
