No new pictures today! I spent the day in the shop sanding the 30 stiles, four legs, two narrow rails and two wide rails on the bed today. I have a set of hearing protection that hooks into my mp3 player and it makes sanding go so much faster. 80 grit done today and I will knock out 150 grit tomorrow along with a once over with 220 grit on a sanding block to remove the little circles that the random orbiting sander leaves behind. The spindles are only an inch apart on the foot and head boards so I am going to finish them before I assemble them. I have changed the type of finish that I am going to use on this bed from the one I took from Popular Woodworking Magazine for A&C style furniture. I found out the other day when I stopped at Lowes that Minwax add a new color to their line of Polyshades called Mission oak so I’m going to give it a shot. Only thing about it is that it only comes in Satin or Gloss finish and I am a fan of semi-gloss on my furniture. Everyone out there says to find a finish that works for you and stick with it and I have one so, why change right? I’ll give you a review, wish me luck.
I also remembered that I was had used one of the side bed rails in place of a board that warped after I had planned it. So I had to dig through my stock to find one board 5/4 X 6” wide and 80” long so that I can plane it tomorrow morning. I really don’t like the fact that I will be using a piece of wood that isn’t acclimatized to my shop for a couple of weeks but, what are you to do. Cheers
