This story starts off sad, but ends happily for me at least. A local sawyer passed away last month and the family is having trouble getting rid of all the “STUFF” he has acuminated in his long lifetime. One of the items that they were particularly interested in liquidating was his inventory of wood. LOTS OF WOOD. This gentleman had several large warehouses full of lumber of different kinds. Thousands upon Thousands of board foot of Cyprus, cherry, heart pine, SYP, white oak, red oak, etc. Well just so happens my wife’s cousin made an offer to the estate and purchased the whole lot for a unbelievable price. He was really only interested in the cypress and heart pine, he offered me the rest if i would just move it. OK!, Well about a thousand trips later we have moved what I estimate to be about 100 tons of lumber to our location. If anyone in the Albany Ga. area needs pine or oak, I have the market cornered, give me call.

Lets See, BLOG= Buy lots of Goodies, Yeah that must be it. Who is up for a trip to the wood store?

I guess that all the experienced Bloggers are rolling their collective eyes by now. SO, on with the update.
My Sawing partner and I put in a little time this weekend with the sawmill, and the results were nice. I know some might think this is not a real woodworking project, But i think it’s a good start for me and possibly others and I thought i might share a few pictures with all.
We received a call a few weeks back from a friend on the local creek, he had a 20’ Sunken Pine Log blocking his dock and wanted to know if we might come and get it. “WELL YES!” so we loaded the tractor and hooked up the lowboy and off on a scavenger adventure we go.

It was as nice old growth heart pine log. I don’t know if you already know what a pine log that size weighs, but let’s just say a 35hp Kubota with a fork lift won’t pick it up. So after some creative wrangling and hauling we got it back to the mill.

It must be time to chuck that baby up, make sawdust and see what we have left over. As you can see the boards are great, cut 20” wide and 5/4 thick these should make some fine projects in the near future. Sure you will agree.

Anybody close by need some nice wide boards, give me a holler!
