Next week I say goodbye to Kansas and all the friends that I have made here. My wife accepted a job in Omaha Nebraska and we will be moving on March 11th. Any fellow LumberJocks in the Omaha area? Is there anything similar to Woodcraft in that area?

Hi, Xodus -
I’m an Omaha native…now live on the east coast. I’d move back in a heartbeat if the career allowed it, though! I can’t attest to the woodworking options (didn’t pick up the hobby until living out here), but in my wholly biased opinion, you’ll be very happy there. Good luck!

I’m from Lincoln. About 45 minutes away. There are some Omahans on here. There is a store in Omaha called Midwest Woodworkers (link). The Woodcraft Mike is referring to is a locally owned business I think. Its not the Woodcraft you are thinking of.
If you have any questions about the city let me know. I know some, and my brother lives there, so we should be able to help out. Enjoy the city!

vinnie looks like you are right, i just did a google and assumed the woodcraft in omaha was the same.
a search on the woodcraft site says the lenexa kansas store is the closest so thats quite a drive from omaha

Welcome to Omaha! Lived in Omaha most of my life. As VinnieP stated, we have Midwest Woodworkers. They have a decent selection of tools (at least a step up from big box stores) and a good selection of lumber (lots of exotics). Another place, Intermountain Lumber sells (you guessed it) lumber – but I have yet to give them a try (hope to soon). I’ve found Tighton Tool to have a good selection of tools as well (although mostly construction/carpentry related).
Good luck and hope you like O-town.

Just remember you’re only a couple hours away from KC. I’m sure Charlie at the Lenexa Woodcraft takes Nebraska dollars too! Be safe.

Welcome to Omaha, you have heard about Midwest woodworkers, great people and a fair selection. They don’t have the variety as Woodcraft but good store. Have you figured out where your going to live here in Omaha?

@Bob Kassmeyer – We haven’t figured out where we are going to live, temporarily we are staying with my Father in-law in Council Bluffs. We are unable to sell our house in KC, since we just re-financed a year ago; so we hired a property management company to lease it out for us; and I have to find a job before the bank will be kind enough to give us a second mortgage. Luckily my father in-law is a wood worker so I will be able to use his workshop (if he cleans it up); until we find a permanent residence all my tools are in storage :( I already miss my table saw and I had to sell my Lathe because we were running out of room in the storage unit. But on the bright side of things, my wife felt bad that I had to sell my lathe and is going to let me purchase the JET Lathe that I have been drooling over for the past few years.
Look forward to meeting some fellow jocks in the area.

My sister lives in Omaha, and I just looked in the yellow pages for Omaha and found that there is a Woodcraft store there as well as Kelly’s sawmill and wood center. Look em’ up. Good luck in the move!
