This is my first fine woodworking project in a while. My good camera died so I am stuck using a cheap one for a while. The blade is made from an old circular saw blade. I used to frame houses so I have a few old blades around and decided to try and make something useful out of them. The handle is made from a spalted branch of unknown origin. I was helping someone cutting branches that were sticking out over a driveway and happened to notice the marble figure in one branch and decided to bring it home to dry out last year.

I cut a kerf into the handle with a Marples back saw which wasn’t very easy. I will have to make a miter box for the saw as it is rather dangerous to use on small pieces. The blade fit pretty tight but I was worried about it working loose over time and decided to add a notch. The ‘key’ I added to fill in the kerf and help lock the blade in place is made from Ipe. The finish is Krylon clear glaze. I have used it before on some figured cedar and it really helps bring out the natural look of the wood without tinting it yellow.
