Having a win with a broken thicknesser

About 3 weeks ago a purchased a second hand Ryobi thicknesser (one of the green ones) model RAP1500G from a bloke who said it hadn’t done much work. Unfortunatly for him when he tried to give me a demonstration the drive belt perished and the high adjustment sounded like a broken coffee grinder. I ended up buying it for a heavily discounted price of $75. Here in Australia these planers retail for $549 so even though it was basically useless I bought it thinking that the OEM parts would be reasonably cheap, well I was wrong the plastic bevel gears for the height adjustment were $40 each and I needed to...
