I want to build a hanging tool box for my planes a chisels and such it will be 3’ wide buy 2’ high how deep would you make it ?

The answer begins with “that depends.” As in, how many planes, what kind, how do you want them situated (horizontal, leaning vertically, on straps, using magnets, etc); if the cabinet will have doors, what kind of chisels, how many, and so on and so forth.

Do you have something more specific in mind, as in, cabinets that inspire that you’ve seen?

Mine is a plane till style, 30 degrees in slope and I am at 29 inches wide with all of my planes on it. I used magnets to secure the planes and a 1/2” square divider between planes. Mine is hung on French Cleats.

I don’t think there is a rule on how to make them, just make it fit your needs.

Will not matter, will be to small as soon as it is hung or shortly there after!
