The Basement #2: Hardwood Flooring..........Cheap.

10-18-2010 06:25 AM by JL7 | 6 comments »

I am a big Craigslist fan, always scanning the materials sections for deals, and those short lots of hardwood flooring come up alot. Those folks with 50 sf of leftover floor that want 1/2 price are quite common. The realiity is not to many people are looking for 50 sf of floor, so more often than not, they accept offers much less than 1/2 price, and often it is downright CHEAP! So this thread is devoted to my cheapness and the use of cool hardwood in pratical applications in the shop and...

10-04-2010 11:38 PM by McLeanVA | 50 comments »

For those of you who asked me for a tutorial on how to make the zig zag legless vegetable death table (cutting board), here is my best shot. I am far too impatient to take photos when I work, so I decided to illustrate the process using some good old Adobe PhotoShop. I hope you find this useful and informative. Steps Cutting Board Version 2 (Two Step)

08-18-2010 03:03 AM by SPalm | 67 comments »

This is a second generation Steps cutting board made out of walnut, maple, and cherry. This is a new style of cutting board (at least new to me). I was thinking about 3D designs on the way home from work last week, after Martyn’s Blog and Steve’s Video. So I came up with this. Kind of Sinister, kind of Tumbling block. Once I drew it out, it reminded me of Staggered Stairs (which are kind of cool), and reminded Karen of the Steps on the Row Houses in Baltimore. So that is how the name came about. I started with 6/4 walnut cut into 10 inch strips. This small length makes ...

Mounting Live Edge Turning

08-14-2010 07:39 PM by scrappy | 11 comments »

Just thought I would post a little blog on how I mount a Live Edge Turning in order to finish off the bottom of the piece. When starting your tun, you can use a turning plate or chuck to hold the bottom and turn the outside and inside. But when you want to finish off the piece, that live edge doesn’t give you anywhere to grip. I saw one of these mounts in the WoodTurnersCatalog.com Mine is a LOT cheesier design, but only cost penny’s to make. Started with a scrap of wood, a ...
