I will not be doing any more project for about 6-8 week due to Total Knee replacement surgery on 4/16/12. Hope to be back at work with some outdoor chair projects by June. I also have two refinishing project to complete this summer. All I need is two good knees to continue the work
Had mine done a year and a half ago. Best thing I ever did! Just do not push the recovery too hard; wait at least two days before chasing the nurses down the hall
I'm on the other side of the fence on the knees surgery…..I had mine done 3 years ago, and I've hated every minute of it…..did all the exercises, used the knee motion machine, taking walks, physical theropy, the whole nine yards, and my knees still give me trouble and hurt till this day….I had one of the best orthopedic surgeons in the country, and he did full replacements…left knee first, then the right 4 months later….I've had a bullet in my rt. knee for about 44 years from VietNam, and I wanted it removed….He didn't do it….said it would tear my knee up worse , so he left it in…..it's hurt like hell since 2008…..then last year I had to have a full hip replacement….it's doing great, but I'll probably never get over this knee crap….seen him 3 times, xrays, etc…...nothing's wrong. I wished every day I would never had it done…So.. I just live with it…I don't want to discourage you or sound negitive, and I hope you have great success with yours…I know a lot of people that had it done, with good results…..But I wasn't one of them….Good luck….Oh yea…..you might plan on being out more than 6-8 weeks, just in case…....
get well soon walt,i also had my left knee done TKR it was tough in the begining but stick with it i also had to have it minipulated after about 12 weeks and its working good now best thing i ever did.
I had ACL surgery on March 21. Thought it would keep me out of the shop for about the same amount of time. Luckily I've healed up pretty well and I've been in the shop for just over a week. If you take it slow and are careful you should be able to get back in no time.
Word to the wise: listen to your physical therapist and work hard at the PT. You'll be thankful you did. Oh yeah, if you take a bunch of the painkillers, chase 'em down with Colace!!!!
Get well soon. Hope it works out for you, as it does for most people.
If I lived closer I would volunteer to help with your projects, but you live too far away.
Thanks for all the good wishes and advice. I believe I will have a good recovery. My wife ran a Short term rehab unit that specilized in Kee replacements for 28 yrs and she is very aware of the requirement for Physical Therapy. The Joint Replacement Center at Wilmington Hospital in Wilmington Delaware does about 2000 knee replacements per year and had a excellent recovery record. I hope to be back in the shop by the middle of May or the first of
June. I am also a RN (Retired) and am well aware of the requirements. The bad part is that i also worked for a Orthopedic surgeon during my working years and I a very familiar with what will be going on in the OR. Thank God for Anesthisa.. (also Colace)
I will keep every one apprised of the progress via the blog

Well here it is 7 days post surgery. Pain not too bad but is present. Getting around with a walker and getting PT twive a week. left knee is doing well but the right one requires a brace to get from sitting to a standing position. Two more weeks untill the first post op appt. Will post update when they are meaningful
Monday will be the last PT visit for a while. I will be seeing the surgeon on Tuesday and expect to get good news. Monday the 9th will mark 12 weeks since the surgery, The knee is doing fine however still a little stiff. This will get better with time. I have the chair I have been working on just about finished. I will post a picture when completed.
I have been toying wth the idea of getting a HVLP spraying system for finishing. Up until now I have used brush on or wipe on only. Right now it is too hot to be outside and too humid in the shop. I have a pool party to go to in NJ. However with Heat index of 105 F I do not think I will be there very long. Hope every one had a great July 4th and a safe one
