This blog is to show my progress on what I call my “crowning achievement”. I cannot post it as a project yet as it is not yet complete. When completed this will go on a posterboard backing, and go into a custom made frame approx 3’ x 4’.

A little back story: This project is being made as a gift. When I was 9 my mother was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma (for those that dont know, that is a horrid cancer). I went to a catholic school at the time, and the principal and one of my teachers in particular (both nuns), did sooo much for me emotionally during the 2 1/2 year battle. As well as hosting fundraisers to help my family pay for medical expenses. After my mother died when I was 12, they helped me to get through it so much. I can never thank them enough for what they did for myself, and my family. This project will be a feeble attempt at a thank you, it will be gifted primarily to my former teacher and principal, as well as being for the whole convent.

Image of what will be when complete.

The completed inner prayer.

First border piece.

Border piece with corner and center inlays.

Border piece laid next to inner prayer section, to show what will look like when done. (Also laid a border pattern piece to show how the corner will look)

The image below is the Our Father my grandfather made, just to give a general idea of the grandeur of the final project, as the two prayers are the same size, simply different styles.

Thank you Julian, this project is a couple years in the making, as I work on it here and there between other projects.

Also, I just edited the post, and added a backstory as to why I am making this.

That is an absolutely awesome undertaking. It is coming along beautifully and I can feel all the emotion you are putting into this work of art. I am sure the recipients will be very touched by this. I know I was.

So I have finally completed all the cuts for this project, all that now remains it to finish sanding it up and then framing it.

Well I think you are and you must have the patience of a saint. When I view a project and see the work that one puts into making something beautiful I must come up with my own thoughts to describe how the project makes me feel. So I’m amazed when I see all the detail in your great work.
Thank you for sharing it with us.
