Recommendations for father's day gift project? - 2 replies

I was hoping to build something for my dad for father’s day, but I sort of gave up on that idea because I didn’t have a jointer or planer. So fast forward to today and I found a great deal for both a planer and jointer on Craigslist and am picking them up after work. I’d like to make something for him just because I think i...

Best way to quickly knock down heavy rust? - 9 replies

A friend of mine inherited an old cabinet saw that’s in good condition, except it looks like the previous owner hasn’t done any table maintenance in years. The table is almost black from a combination of rust and being generally dirty. I’ve tried scrubbing with a normal dish sponge, but at that rate I think it’d take me...

Miter Saw & Radial Saw station design question - 3 replies

I just picked up a used RAS and want to build a ‘saw station’ workbench to hold it and my SCMS. My existing workbench measures 2’x8’ and is at one end of a 19’ wall, so I think I’ll build the new bench at the same height and have it occupy the remaining 11’ on that wall – this way I have a 19̵...

Locating dust collector higher than tools - will it work? - 4 replies

I was chatting with a buddy last night about ways to free up some space in my 2 car garage workshop, and he suggested relocating my DC from the garage to the attic above. The attic space above my garage is pretty huge due to the way my house is laid out…there’s probably 20’x20’ of usable space with enough height to walk ...

Yorkcraft YC-6J jointer - 6 replies

Found one of these on Craigslist for $200 and it appears to be in good shape. Anybody know anything about them? I found a few reviews online that were fairly positive, but I never know if I can trust those sites I’ve never heard of before. One of them said it was very similar to the Delta 37-195. I’ve had my eye on the Ridgid 610...

Woodworking design software for simple projects - 12 replies

Hi All, I’m looking for some software to help me create plans and material lists for simple projects. For instance, I need to build a storage shed, and it would be really helpful if I could create a sketch of how I want to frame it, specify the type and size of the lumber to use, show where the sheet goods go, etc. It’d also be ...

Delta 37-195 jointer - 2 replies

Saw one of these on craigslist and was hoping to get some opinions on it. I searched the site but the only review I found wasn’t very helpful. Google seems to think it’s a pretty good machine for a hobbyist, and I have a small hobby workshop where it would only be used occasionally, so I was thinking of calling the guy to take a lo...

Ridgid BS1400 14" bandsaw clearanced at HD for $184, worth it? - 28 replies

I was looking around at HD tonight and noticed that the Ridgid BS1400 was clearanced down to $184 from (I think) $369. I read some reviews and it seems like they have some problems with vibration and wheels being out of round. With a 10% off coupon it’s roughly $176 out the door, which is a pretty sweet deal for a new bandsaw w/ lifetime...

Table saw buying guide? - 22 replies

Hi All, First post here, been reading the forums for a few days and decided to join. I’m looking for some help with buying a table saw. I’ve read over some of the reviews and other posts, but I was wondering if someone can point me in the direction of a good buying guide? I’m not sure exactly what I need. I’m a n...
