Steps Cutting Board Version 2 (Two Step)

This is a second generation Steps cutting board made out of walnut, maple, and cherry. The first Steps board I made used a basic square with edge of maple and cherry to make it a block and a notch to do the stepping. I wanted to try to make a stepping board using the hex Tumbling Block design, and this is what I came up with. This is a blog requested by Douglas Bordner. Midnight Serenade started as an ordinary piece of straight grain oak. I carved an unusual shape to try and bring some interest to the grain. After shaping and sanding, this piece almost receive a traditional finish. The wood and grain were beautiful, but Douglas had a request that needed to be fulfilled. Handcrafted Wooden Rings

I received a couple of comments with regards to how I build the wooden rings in my gallery, so I thought this would be a good place to share a bit about my process. This will not be the best-worded blog entry.
