1 Weekend - Unassembly parts, initial process

Acerbi is a Brazilian brand that went bankrupt in the 90s. They made high quality iron cast machines during various years. All of your machines had been made 100% in Brazil.
This project consists in restore a vintage jointer and give him a modern look.

Model Specifications:

Manufacture: Acerbi

Model: DES-2 (10")

Year: Unknown

This is the jointer when I bought. Dirt, a lot of dust and rust, and some missing parts.

The initial work was unassembly the entire machine, to clean and identify broken parts.

2 Weekend - Remove old paint and bring it a new finish

Read the Part 1

I used a paint remover product to purge all. After all paint well removed, a clean it up and start your first primer coat. This is just a preparation for the final paint.

The final color of the body will be dark gray with some accessories in black.
I'm designing in sketchup a new modern stand for it. In next weekend's I hope to finish it.

5 Weekend - The Paint

The base for jointer keeps going this weekend. Worked in it only on sunday, and finnaly ended the woodworking part, remaing now just the finish and minor adjustments.

Started by the enclosure. The dust drawer with exact dimension to accomplish a plastic dust port and 4" hose connector.

Using 12mm MDF (about 1/2"). Removed the originally footer to made a minor changes. How these are just cosmetic items, I will added later justin gluing it in the base. This will give him a better finish.

Rounding the corners

The back side. I reversed the motor position to facilitate movement and provide greater course

The backside door to access the motor. Used lock nuts to screw 4 allen to holding the door later.

Finishing the screew holes:

The corners after a few sanding:

Ready to start the paint:

And finally applied first coat of primer.

It's almost ready, remaining only the painting process and minor detais. I hope to finish maybe in the next weekend.
