Planer marks - 13 replies

Not sure if I am posting in the right forum, but I am a newbie and have a question about my planer. It leaves marks(ridges) in the wood and I’m not sure about the best way to remove them. I’ve tried sanding it out with my orbital sander and it is hard to keep the wood flat. Does anyone have any advice on the best way to do this?...

Advice building a router table - 3 replies

Hi everyone, I am getting an Incra 27”x43” router table top for Christmas and have been trying to find plans for building a cabinet for it. I have found a couple of plans that I like, but they aren’t for an offset top. I have been thinking about modifying one to accommodate the offset top, but I would really like to find some p...

Weight limit of plywood floor? - 7 replies

The floor in my shop is 3/4” plywood on treated 4×4 with 24” centers. I am trying to find out how much weight it can safely hold. I am hopefully going to pick up a G0490X tomorrow and this thing weighs 500lbs. I am concerned about putting it in my shop without doing something to strengthen the floor. I have a 250lb table saw an...

Incra TS LS or LS Super System? - 16 replies

I have a question for anyone that owns either one of these systems. I am considering buying one of these 2 fences, but am not sure which way to go. Is it a PITA to change-over from one set up to the next with the TS LS? I like the TS LS in that it is one fence for both tools, but I also like the idea of having the router in its own cabinet.

How much is this worth? - 56 replies

I found a 5HP Foley Belsaw 12” planer and it is supposedly in good shape. He is asking $400 for it and said I can run some wood through it to see how it does. It’s about an 1 hour drive and I haven’t seen it. I asked him what model it is and how old it was and I’m still waiting for a reply. If its in decent shape is it w...

Need advice - 37 replies

I am trying to figure out what I should buy. I will have about $1500 to spend on my shop in the next couple of weeks and at first I was thinking about buying an 8” grizzly jointer and dewalt 735 planer. Then I started thinking about buying the 15” grizzly planer and holding off on the jointer. I’m really not sure which way to g...

Grizzly G0452P Advice - 15 replies

I am very close to purchasing a new jointer. I would really like to get an 8”er, but don’t have the space in my shop. I’ve been looking at the Grizzly G0452P and am about ready to place an order. My question is, should I fork out the extra and get the spiral cutter. Is there really that much difference to justify the extra cost?

Powermatic model 50 6" jointer - 1 reply

I am currently looking to buy a jointer and am debating between new and used. I came across a PM model 50 that appears to be in pretty good shape. The motor was swapped out from 3 phase to run on 120V. He is wanting $475 for it. Does anyone have any advice on this planer? Is it worth what he is asking?

110V or 220V? - 25 replies

I am getting the rigid 4512 in a couple days and am trying to determine if I should run 220 to it. My shop is only 110, but I can run 220 if the is a big advantage. Is it going to give me more power? I thought it was just less current draw. Thanks for any advice/info.

Using blondewood for workbench - 4 replies

Does anyone know much about blondewood? I am making a workbench and can get a 3/4” sheet for free. Would this make a good table top? If not, what would make a good sturdy top and not be too hard on the wallet?
